Shirley Kumar is an emerging self taught artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
Her works combine painting and drawing on the same surface, employing many implements from brush to hand. She uses drawn line, exploring curve and organic shapes, stamping and working from the inside out, connecting with memory.
The past intruiges Kumar and she connects to her Indian heritage in her work drawing upon elements from ancestral lines. Mandalas, seed pods and other organic forms emerge.
Over the last two years Kumar has developed a deeper understanding of artistic principals which shine through in her current body of work.
